TeacherNET offers local educators lesson plans & activities

Friday, February 20, 2009

In July 2009, the American Red Cross launched TeacherNET as part of a technology grant funded by AT&T. Focused on providing local educators and youth leaders with lessons and activities to supplement Red Cross-instructed courses (focused on disaster preparedness and response), teachers and students alike will find TeacherNET to be a valuable source of information and activity to engage learning everyday in their classrooms.

By using a simple (user-created) login and password, educators gain access to various lessons ranging from Fire Safety to Water Safety to the History of the Red Cross. Educators are able to schedule Red Cross Instructors to teach a variety of subjects in their own classrooms, sign up for "TeacherNET e-Alerts" to be alerted when new curriculum is added to the site, and get involved with "Colleague Chat," where local educators can share ideas and ask questions of each other and/or Red Cross staff.

The Red Cross is excited for the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with local schools and educators to provide this valuable information to our youth. We are optimistic that by continuing to make Red Cross Instructors and resources available to our local educators, our young people will make a positive step toward making our communities safer places in which to work and live.
