Volunteer Opportunities: Junior American Red Cross
Preparing Tomorrow's Leaders
Puppet shows and parades ... bike rodeos and fairs ... interactive presentations and safety promotions ... It’s all part of volunteering with the Junior Red Cross.
Did you know the Red Cross has a special volunteer program for students in grades 7 to 12? The roots of this movement trace back to more than a century ago, when a group of Pennsylvania children decided to put on a play to raise money for the Red Cross. Legend has it that American Red Cross founder Clara Barton used the $50 they raised to help a family of flood victims.
Today, Junior Red Cross volunteers in central Illinois keep that generous spirit alive while having fun, meeting friends – and, most importantly, helping others. Our Junior Red Crossers make their community a safer place while building their resumes. They are tomorrow’s leaders.
The mission of the Junior Red Cross is to provide quality educational training programs that lead to meaningful, fulfilling volunteer opportunities. We also provide leadership training and channel young volunteers into a broad range of community service opportunities.
