Youth Classes
Educators: Red Cross instructors will visit your classroom or group to teach children one or more of the classes detailed below.
All classes are age-specific, last approximately 30 minutes to one hour and are FREE (except where noted).

Health & Safety
Babysitter's Training - teaches participants how to provide safe and responsible care for young children. (ages 11-15) --(Fee)
Germy Jeopardy - Jeopardy-style game about germs coupled with a discussion on the seasonal and H1N1 flu (ages 8 & up)
Longfellow's Whale Tale - teaches children about water safety and the importance of swimming in a supervised area, the dangers of cold water and rescue techniques. (ages 3 - 11)
Scrubby Bear - teaches children about hygiene. Children learn about germs, where they are found and how they spread, correct hand washing techniques and the purpose of skin. (ages 3 - 8)
Winter Safety - Teaches children how to stay safe in winter and to recognize and respond to common emergencies (ages 3-8)
Disaster Preparedness
Be Ready 1-2-3 - Cool Cat, Ready Rabbit, and Disaster Dog teach how to prevent & respond to fires, storms & earthquakes (ages 3-9)
Disaster Dudes - Promotes disaster awareness and teaches appropriate responses to natural disasters (ages 7-9)
Masters of Disaster - Teaches children the science behind disasters and how to prepare for disasters. These topics can be covered in one class or combined: general preparedness, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, lightning, earthquakes, and fires Also discusses the consequences of the misuse of fire and home safety (ages 5-13)
Fire and Tornado Safety - Teaches children fire and tornado preparedness information (ages 3 & up). Puppet shows are available upon request for groups of 20 or more (ages 3-8) and “Toys or Tools?” is available as a fire safety class (ages 3-6)
First Aid
Basic Aid Training (BAT) - Teaches first aid, fire safety, rescue breathing, choking skills, wound prevention, poison safety, lost and found, and stranger safety. Each unit can be covered in one 30-minute session or topics can be combined.. BAT books may be purchased for $3 each. (ages 8 - 12)
First Aid for Children Today (FACT) - Children discover ways to protect themselves and others from harm. There are six units: First Aid for You, Healthy Living Habits, Careful Kids, Fire Safety, Gun Safety, and First Aid for the Environment. Each unit can be covered in one 30 minute session or topics can be combined (ages 3-9)
First Aid & CPR - participants will be able to recognize an emergency and use appropriate care. Also teaches how to care for a breathing emergency and adult, infant or child CPR and/or first aid. (ages 11 & up) --(Fee)
‘Til Help Arrives - A program that teaches young people how to recognize an emergency, call 911, and provide care for common first aid emergencies (ages 11 & up)
Traffic Safety
Aggressive Driving - teaches young people how to recognize and respond to the signals of aggressive driving in other drivers and themselves. Can be combined with Distracted Driving class. (ages 14 & up)
Bicycle Safety - a 30-45 minute program that teaches young people the rules of the road, the importance of wearing a helmet and bicycle safety. (ages 6 & up)
Buckle Bear/ I'm Safe in the Car - is a fun way to teach children the importance of wearing their seat belts and using their car-seats/booster seats. It also discusses when it is appropriate for children to sit in a regular car seat. This presentation lasts 30-45 minutes. Also available as a Puppet Show. (Buckle Bear, ages 2-4; I'm Safe in the Car, ages 4-8)
Bus Safety - includes fun activities to teach children safe riding tips as well as tips for getting on and off the bus. (grades Pre-K through 3rd)
Distracted Driving - teaches young people how to recognize and avoid distractions that occur when they are driving. Can be combined with Aggressive Driving class. (ages 14 & up)
Fatal Vision - uses "special goggles" with distorted lenses and a video to teach young people that drinking and driving is not a responsible choice. The presentation lasts 45 minutes. (ages 10 & up)
Seat Belt Safety - teaches young people the importance of and appropriate techniques for using seat belts. (ages 8 & up)
